Imagined and designed by the founder, Marjolaine Dubruque, in her workshop in Provence, GYPSO hair clips are the result of a meticulous and artisanal manufacturing process, highlighting French know-how.
Selection and preparation of brass
The first step in the manufacturing of GYPSO hair clips begins with the rigorous selection of brass. This material is chosen for its robustness and its ability to be worked with precision. The brass is then cut to the desired shape by an experienced French craftsman. This cutting is done using specialized tools that allow for precise and uniform shapes. Each piece of brass is then carefully bent to achieve the perfect curvature, essential for the comfort and aesthetics of the barrette. Once bent, the pieces are polished to remove any imperfections and give them a bright and uniform shine. This polishing is a crucial step that requires great skill to ensure a smooth and flawless finish.
Assembling the brass parts
After preparing the brass, the parts are ready for assembly. This step takes place in France, where our team of skilled welders takes over. The welders assemble each piece of brass with meticulous precision, ensuring that each weld is strong and durable. The hair clips, whether clips, frogs or lisettes, are supplied by small Italian producers. These producers are selected for the exceptional quality of their products, ensuring that each GYPSO barrette is not only beautiful, but also functional and comfortable to wear. The brass parts are welded onto these hooks with special care to ensure a perfect and durable attachment.
Fine gold gilding
Once the assembly is complete, the barrettes are sent to our gilder. The latter applies a 24 carat fine gold gilding to each piece. Gilding is a delicate process that requires great expertise to ensure uniform coverage and an impeccable finish. The gilder uses traditional techniques to apply the gold, ensuring that each barrette has a luxurious and long-lasting shine. This step is essential to give the barrettes their high-end look and characteristic shine.
Varnishing
To protect the barrettes from hair products and daily wear and tear, a layer of varnish is applied. This transparent varnish forms a protective barrier that preserves the beauty and shine of the barrettes over time. The varnish is applied carefully to ensure even coverage and maximum protection. This step also ensures that the barrettes remain strong and durable, even after prolonged use. The varnish used is specially formulated to be resistant to common hair products, ensuring that the barrettes retain their shine and beauty.
Enameling (for enamelled barrettes)
For enamelled models, a final step is necessary. The barrettes are sent to our artisan enameller, who applies the enamel by hand. Enameling is an artistic process that requires great precision and a keen sense of color. Each bar is enameled according to the colors defined together, which allows to create unique and personalized pieces. The enamel is applied in several layers to obtain vibrant patterns and colors. Each layer is carefully fired to ensure perfect adhesion and a durable finish. The artisan enameler uses traditional techniques to apply the enamel, thus ensuring that each bar is a work of art in itself.
Quality Control and Packaging
Before being put on sale, all GYPSO hair clips undergo a rigorous quality control. Each hair clip is inspected to ensure that it meets the brand's high standards in terms of finish, strength and aesthetics. Hair clips that do not meet these criteria are reworked or rejected. Once quality control has passed, the hair clips are carefully packaged to ensure that they arrive in perfect condition at the customer's home. The packaging is designed to protect the hair clips during transport while reflecting the elegance and luxury of the GYPSO brand.
